Weil told associates to start job hunting before the vote even happened
Capital markets head Alex Lynch gathered junior lawyers on Tuesday and told them to look for work elsewhere, while asking them to keep servicing clients with no end date given, according to a person familiar with the meeting cited by Bloomberg Law. That came before the dissolution recommendation went to partners. Weil pulled in roughly $2.1 billion in revenue last year, a figure the Wall Street Journal notes made a smaller, slimmed-down version of the firm theoretically viable given its relatively light obligations outside international office leases. Nobody chose that option. The gap between what Weil could have survived as and what its partners actually voted for is the clearest evidence that confidence, not cash, killed the firm.
