DoorDash pays $131.5m after 'we screwed up' on courier pay
Mayor Zohran Mamdani's office says roughly 264,000 Dashers will get paid under the settlement, with $12.3 million covering direct missed or late payments and more than $83 million resolving a dispute over how DoorDash counted time couriers spent logged in but not actively delivering. The city's formula pays out at roughly double the original shortfall, so a worker owed $1,000 and never paid could see $3,000 land in their account from late October. DoorDash's own numbers show 65% of affected workers were shorted less than $1, but the minimum payout is set at $10 regardless, and the company also accepted ongoing city monitoring of its pay systems. The real cost isn't the $131.5 million, it's that New York has now proven a payment-timing dispute over app idle-time can be litigated into nine figures against any gig platform.
