Argentina LNG is nearing its $51bn financing test

YPF is targeting a November 26 final investment decision for a 12-million-tonne-a-year LNG project with Eni and Abu Dhabi’s XRG. CEO Horacio Marín says offtake contracts are being negotiated or signed with buyers in Europe and Asia, a necessary step before sponsors commit to the reported $51 billion cost. European buyers gain a prospective source outside Russia and the Gulf, but Argentina must still secure financing, approvals and stable export rules. Without binding buyers and a credible capital plan, the date remains a target, not a green light.
